SSK 1TB Direct-Plug USB-C Portable Alternatives: 6 Similar Picks Compared

How these alternatives compare

SanDisk Extreme 500GB Portable SSD

The SanDisk Extreme 500GB Portable SSD is a compact option for users who value ruggedness over capacity. It offers a smaller 500GB storage size compared to the 1TB SSK drive. The SanDisk unit is slightly wider and longer, measuring 3.8 inches in length versus the SSK’s 1.8 inches. It uses a USB-C interface like the SSK, but it lacks the direct-plug design. You will need a cable for connection. The SanDisk is built for harsh environments, similar to the SSK’s IP65 rating, but it does not include the angled adapter that helps with iPhone ProRes shoots. If you need more physical storage space and do not mind using a cable, this drive is a durable choice.

Kingston XS2000 500GB Portable SSD

The Kingston XS2000 500GB Portable SSD prioritizes speed over storage capacity. It provides top-tier performance for users who need to move large media files quickly. Unlike the SSK 1TB drive, this Kingston model only offers 500GB of storage. It is also larger and heavier, weighing 1.92 ounces compared to the SSK’s 0.53 ounces. The dimensions are 2.74 inches in length, making it less pocket-friendly than the SSK’s direct-plug form factor. Both drives use USB-C interfaces. The Kingston is ideal if you accept less storage for potentially faster sustained writes. It is a practical pick for professionals who value performance metrics more than raw capacity or ultra-compact portability.

SSK 1TB Portable USB-C SSD

The SSK SD500 1TB Portable SSD is another option from the same brand, designed for mobile creators. It offers the same 1TB capacity as the original drive but has a different physical design. The SD500 is larger, measuring 2.7 inches in length and 1.48 inches in width, compared to the direct-plug model’s 1.8 inches. It also weighs more at 1.19 ounces. This model does not feature the direct-plug connector, so you will need a cable. It is suitable for users who prioritize strong read speeds and iPhone compatibility over the cable-free convenience of the original. If you need a larger footprint for better heat dissipation or prefer a traditional form factor, this SSK variant is a solid alternative.

Crucial X10 Pro 1TB Portable SSD

The Crucial X10 Pro 1TB Portable SSD delivers high speeds and rugged durability for professionals. It matches the SSK drive’s 1TB capacity but is significantly larger and heavier. The Crucial unit weighs 1.48 ounces and measures 2.56 inches in length, compared to the SSK’s 0.53 ounces and 1.8 inches. It uses a USB-C interface but lacks the direct-plug design, requiring a cable for connection. The X10 Pro is built for harsh conditions, similar to the SSK’s IP65 rating. It is ideal for creators who shoot in tough environments and need reliable, fast data transfer. If you prefer a traditional portable SSD form factor with robust build quality, this drive is a strong competitor to the compact SSK model.

Crucial X9 1TB Portable USB-C SSD

The Crucial X9 1TB Portable USB-C SSD is a durable option for travelers who need broad compatibility. It offers the same 1TB capacity as the SSK drive but is larger and heavier. The Crucial X9 weighs 1.13 ounces and measures 2.56 inches in length, versus the SSK’s 0.53 ounces and 1.8 inches. It uses a USB-C interface but does not feature the direct-plug connector. This drive is designed for physical protection and multi-platform use. It is a good choice if you prioritize durability and compatibility over the ultra-compact, cable-free design of the SSK. The X9 is suitable for users who carry their data in various environments and need a reliable storage solution that fits standard USB-C ports.

ADATA 500GB USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Portable SSD

The ADATA SD810 500GB Portable SSD is a rugged, high-speed option for gamers and travelers. It offers 500GB of storage, which is half the capacity of the SSK 1TB drive. The ADATA unit is smaller in length at 2.83 inches but heavier at 1.47 ounces. It uses a USB-C interface but lacks the direct-plug design. The SD810 is built for durability and fast read speeds, making it suitable for gaming applications. It is a compact choice if you need rugged storage but can accept less capacity. The drive is ideal for users who prioritize portability and speed over the larger storage space and direct-connect convenience of the SSK model. It fits well in pockets or bags for on-the-go use.
