Interface, Form Factor, and Speed Comparison
Interface and Speed
The SanDisk SSD Plus 2TB uses a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface. It offers sequential read speeds up to 545MB/s and write speeds up to 515MB/s. This interface limits throughput to the SATA standard. The WD_BLACK SN850X 1TB utilizes an NVMe interface. It delivers sequential read speeds up to 7,300 MB/s and write speeds up to 6,300 MB/s. The NVMe connection bypasses SATA bottlenecks. This results in significantly higher bandwidth for data transfer. You will notice much faster file movements with the WD_BLACK drive compared to the SATA connection on the SanDisk model.
Form Factor
The SanDisk SSD Plus 2TB comes in a 2.5-inch form factor with a 7mm height. It measures 3.95 inches in length and 2.75 inches in width. This traditional shape fits into standard desktop and laptop drive bays using SATA cables. The WD_BLACK SN850X 1TB uses an M.2 2280 form factor. It is much smaller, measuring 0.87 inches in length and 0.79 inches in width. This shape plugs directly into motherboard slots. It saves space and does not require data or power cables. The M.2 design is more modern and compact for current systems.
Storage Capacity
The SanDisk SSD Plus 2TB provides 2TB of storage space. This allows you to store a large number of high-resolution photos, videos, and applications. The WD_BLACK SN850X 1TB offers 1TB of storage. While it holds plenty of games and essential files, it has half the capacity of the SanDisk model. If you need to store large media libraries or extensive game collections, the 2TB drive provides more room. The 1TB drive is sufficient for most users but offers less total space than the 2TB option.
Cache Type
The SanDisk SSD Plus 2TB integrates SLC caching to boost burst write performance. This helps with faster web browsing, gaming, and productivity tasks by handling temporary data spikes efficiently. The WD_BLACK SN850X 1TB data does not explicitly list its cache type in the provided specifications. Both drives use NAND flash memory, but the specific caching mechanism for the WD_BLACK model is not detailed here. You should check the manufacturer's full technical sheet for the WD_BLACK cache details if this feature is critical for your specific workload.
Build and Reliability
The SanDisk SSD Plus 2TB is engineered to resist shock and vibration because it has no moving parts. It is covered by a limited 3-year warranty for peace of mind. The WD_BLACK SN850X 1TB data does not list specific warranty terms or shock resistance claims in the provided text. Both drives are solid-state and lack moving parts, offering inherent durability over mechanical hard drives. The SanDisk drive explicitly mentions its reliability features and warranty coverage in the provided data, giving you clear information on its support and construction standards.
Choose the right drive for your needs
Users needing max storage for photos and videos
The SanDisk SSD Plus offers 2TB of capacity, which is double the 1TB found on the WD_BLACK drive. This extra space lets you store more high-resolution photos and videos. The SATA III interface provides read speeds up to 545MB/s, which is fast enough for everyday tasks like web browsing and productivity work. It also includes SLC caching to boost burst write performance.
Gamers seeking the fastest load times possible
The WD_BLACK SN850X uses an NVMe interface with M.2 2280 form factor. It delivers sequential read speeds up to 7,300 MB/s and write speeds up to 6,300 MB/s. These numbers are significantly higher than the SATA drive. This speed reduces load times for games and applications on compatible systems, providing a top-tier performance experience for gaming and workstation tasks.
People upgrading older PCs with standard drives
The SanDisk SSD Plus uses a 2.5-inch form factor, which fits directly into most older desktops and laptops that accept SATA drives. It replaces aging hard drives easily. The drive includes Acronis True Image software for simple migration. Its 3-year limited warranty adds peace of mind.
